Description
“Jazz” is the first of the third wave of my Feminine Spirit series, and represents a real diversion from the other feminine pieces in the collection. She was inspired by my love for Whistler, which has been forged by my near-weekly trips to Whistler village during the summer season. I participate in the Sunday farmers market there and try to get away as often as I can for the incredible biking, hiking, and swimming opportunities Whistler offers in the summer. I actually prefer it there in the summer to the winter, though the skiing is everything you’ve heard it is. As for “Jazz”, embedded in her dress are the duel peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb. She is my lady of winter.
There are really only two pieces in the collection that are truly suited for a pairing with Jazz. The first is “Sweet Home” which has a warmer feel and the other is “Homecoming” which has more of winter’s touch. Both are rich in the the same dominant blues that make Jazz so stunning.
After the “Sisters”, Jazz is probably my favorite of my own work. She stands out in any room, regardless of the pallet, and has a subtle grace that carries a broad appeal. When shopping for a gift, Jazz may be as safe a bet as you can find in my whole collection.
The original piece was done using an acrylic ink paint on watercolor paper. The technique is very similar to watercolor but tends to keep more vibrant hues and dries permanently to the paper.
